The third annual America's Best Landscape Architecture Schools study ranks accredited undergraduate and graduate landscape architecture programs from the perspective of practitioners. The study, conducted in mid-2006, targeted professionals at leading US landscape architecture firms as well as those that work in the public sector. The study captured these organizations' experience with landscape architecture graduates during the past five years, asking respondents to indicate which schools have produced the best-prepared graduates. Participants were required to be directly involved in the hiring and performance of graduates.

The Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) is the official accrediting body for first-professional bachelor- and master-level landscape architecture programs in the United States. Degrees include a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) and a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA). Pre-professional and advanced professional programs fall outside LAAB's scope. Note that in order to become a registered landscape architect, many states' licensure laws require applicants to have a degree from an LAAB-accredited program.

The 2007 study also queried participants about sustainable design education, the results of which can be found on page 76. A list of participating firms can be found on pages 95-100.
