Low Energy Building Demo Project of Tsinghua University
An open lab for eco-building research, this low-energy demonstration building will demonstrate new building technology, utilize renewable energy, and provide occupants with a healthy, comfortable, natural and harmonious indoor environment. The project is a key research project funded by the Beijing Science and Technology Committee (BSTC). Many of the latest technologies were used in the construction of the LED building, including BEE technologies from countries, such as the US, Germany, Japan, Denmark, and Italy. About 50 corporations donated their products for the LED building, ten of which were used in China for the first time.

Patagonia Clothing Company Corporate Headquarters
Twelve percent of the Patagonia headquarters’ energy needs will be furnished by three custom-built parking lot carports incorporating 360 185-watt Sharp solar panels. The Patagonia’s store in Reno, NV incorporates photovoltaic cells into their power scheme and their Denver store is wind powered.
Mt. Airy, NC
Mt. Airy Library
The Mt. Airy public library uses 86 percent fewer Btu’s per sq.-ft. than a typical commercial building and successfully incorporates day lighting and numerous renewable energy technologies.
Mazria Inc. Odems Dzurec
Santa Monica, CA
Incorporating passive solar design strategies, this 44-unit single-resident occupancy building will be one-hundred percent energy independent. Building location, shape, and orientation all contribute to the success of the passive solar design strategies. A natural gas turbine used to convert natural gas to electricity for base energy needs will exceed 70 percent efficiency as compared to a typically 30 percent conversion efficiency.
