59 firm owners, partners, and/or principals of interior design and architecture firms were asked: "In your firm's hiring experience, which schools do you feel have best prepared students for the Interior Design profession?"
The Interior design school research was conducted with 59 firm owners, partners, and/or principals of private practice interior design and architecture firms who participated by answering the following question: "In your firm's hiring experience within the last five years, which schools do you feel have best prepared students for the Interior Design profession? (Please list up to 10 school from FIDER accredited programs.)"
DesignIntelligence selected these firms with the list validated by Counsel House Research. There were approximately 11,021 employees in the participating firms. The survey was conducted in the late summer and early fall of 2002.
We chose the leading firms from across the country being careful to achieve a geographic diversity as well as include firms of all sizes. We looked at firms that are leaders in their market sector (i.e. healthcare, commercial, institutional, etc.). We included firms that have won major national, state, local, and market sector award programs within the past five years. For the interiors survey, we included not only interior design firms but also architecture firms with interior design departments. The surveys were targeted to those having direct experience with the hiring and performance of graduates: director of design, managing principals and human resource directors.
