Adopt the principles of the "2030 Challenge".
All design leaders must recognize, and assume responsibility of the critical role to educate clients about sustainable, energy efficient, healthful operations.
For all of our client's projects, strive to achieve "carbon neutral" design.
Establish a Summit website to actively share information, ideas, and solutions.
Publicize real projects that are successful in reducing emissions, lowering energy costs, and creating life-cycle benefits.
Adopt lifestyle changes to reduce our collective environmental impact, such as recycling 100 percent of the waste produced by our respective offices, and committing to reducing energy consumption in our own firms by an average of 50 percent in the next five years.
Produce all of our projects in accordance with sustainable design principles, using real performance metrics to verify results.
Work with city, regional and state agencies to adopt environmentally-responsible building codes and other regulations.
Create a leadership awards program that will publicize new, workable ideas in sustainable design.
Meet with professional design schools to advocate the Nantucket Principles and the Santa Fe Priorities integration into programs.
Work with our clients to build a solid business case for the economic advantages of sustainable design.
Recognize and reward a diverse group of younger members of our respective firms, who will become tomorrow's leaders, encouraging their commitment to the principles of sustainable design.
All Summit Delegates to communicate these Santa Fe Priorities within their own organizations and develop specific action plans that are communicated back the Design Futures Council for sharing in 2007.
In supporting this effort, the role of the Design Futures Council will be to foster leadership and foresight in all matters related to design, professional practice, and the environment. The DFC will provide fertile ground for creating, sharing, and disseminating useful information, focusing on "what's going to happen next?" in the design professions. We actively encourage our members to take direct action as leaders of their respective organizations, providing both inspiration and practical results for their clients and the public at large.
