Trendsetting Commissions

HGA has been selected for two projects for the state of Minnesota: The first is a $60 million office building for the Agriculture and Health Department, expected to begin construction this winter. The second, a $45 million health lab, expected to be complete in 2005. The first project is in association with Pickard Chilton, the second has HGA teamed with CUH2A.

NBBJ has been selected for a 300,000 square foot private hospital in Moscow. NBBJ is lead architect for the $160 million project that has an anticipated construction time of two years, starting next April. The hospital will be a membership, health-club style organization where an annual fee will cover basic family healthcare, in addition to access to the hospital’s suite of more specialized services.

HLM Design has been named lead architect for the British military’s new project for single living accommodation, known as SLAM. The billion-Pound project’s first phase, the largest prime contract yet to be undertaken by the Ministry of Defence, will run for a period of five years and upgrade more than 16,000 bed spaces, utility and common areas for service personnel across Britain. Construction will start during 2003-2004.

The Natural Resources Defense Council unveiled plans this month for a $3.81 million green renovation for its 15,000-square foot offices in Santa Monica, naming Moule & Polyzoides Architects and Urbanists as leaders for the project. The project plans to use LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum standards, the highest from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Swiss firm Burckhardt + Partner has won an international competition to design a sports complex for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The winning design comprised a huge building with 10 stadiums, eight for training and two for competitions, including an 18,000-seat basketball stadium.

Sasaki Associates Inc. has won approval from officials in Winston-Salem to design a master plan for a 180-acre expansion at Piedmont Triad Research Park. Officials at The Idealliance and Wake Forest University estimate the project could create 10,000 jobs and generate more than $5 million in property tax revenues annually.
