Hoffman LLC - Students React to River Crest Elementary
River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin, designed and built by Hoffman, was completed in August of 2008. Striving to meet project goals based on conversations with the Hudson School Board, Hoffman achieved the following with the creation of the school districts sixth elementary school.
• Design a 21st century school with flexible and adaptable learning spaces. • Provide a highly-sustainable school that offers healthy spaces, energy and water-efficiency, operational savings, and environmental education. • Meet school district and community expectations of an extremely attractive building (the Wow! factor).
River Crest, which became the first elementary school in Wisconsin (and just the second public elementary school in the nation) to receive Gold under the U.S. Green Building Councils new LEED® for Schools Rating System, was designed and built for $166/square foot. That total project cost, which includes design, site work, construction, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment, is $57/square foot (or 29%) below the average cost for public elementary schools built in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in 2008, as reported by School Planning & Management in their 2009 Construction Report.
